It feels so good to be done and confident about my work. I really pushed myself to think in new directions and how to stretch the idea of being fragile to a far extent. I am glad that I experimented with new mediums that I had never used before. I am proud of my work, especially the tightrope walker, that piece was the highlight for me. I am really excited to see the results, hopefully they are good!
Revised Commentary Part II
My work demonstrates exploration of my idea by looking at different aspects of it. I looked at physical, emotional, and mental fragility. Our bodies, hearts, and minds can all break down, and I addressed all of these scenarios. In the pieces with guns (2, 12)  I tried to show that life can be taken away from you in a single second. When the lifecycle of birth and death is referenced (9, 11) I show that the human body is fragile. In the Shattered Heart (1) and Divorce (4) pieces I showed how difficult love can be and how trying it can be to the heart. The Fragile X Syndrome (6), Finally Cracked (5) and Lost pieces (8) represent the mental frailty. I also viewed how fragile the world around us is in the  pieces where the ground is breaking (7, 10). Sometimes we lose our balance which is shown in the tightrope walker falling off (3). There are all different aspects and I tried to get a snapshot of each of them. The element of lines is very important in each piece. The lines represent the line of crossing into insanity, or finally tipping, crashing, or breaking. This is how my work demonstrates exploration.
Revised Commentary
The central idea of my concentration is the fragility of life. I highlight the moments when things are breaking. Life is precious; a gift. Each second should be epic, because you never know if it will be your last. Psalm 119:138 says, “Help me understand  so I can live to the fullest." My goal was to inspire people to reflect back upon their own lives and come to the same conclusion I did; I want to live a fulfilling life to the fullest, before and after it shatters.
Bones- Our bones are known to break often, and eventually they just decay in the ground. Even though we as people can be strong, our bodies are more fragile.
Baby Boy- This piece represents the fragility of a newborn baby. A friend has sent a gift to the baby and the box says fragile, which is symbolic of how careful you have to be with gifts, especially the gift of life.
Fragile X Syndrome- This piece represents mental fragility with the X chromosome in its fragile state

How does your work demonstrate exploration of your idea?
My work demonstrates exploration of my idea by looking at different aspects of it. I looked at physical, emotional, and mental fragility. Our bodies, hearts, and minds can all break down, and I addressed all of these scenarios. In the pieces with guns I tried to show that life can be taken away from you in a single second. In the shattered heart and divorce pieces I showed how difficult love can be and how trying it can be to the heart. The Fragile X Syndrome and Lost pieces represent the mental frailty. I also viewed how fragile the world around us is in the cracking of the ground pieces. Sometimes we lose our balance which is shown in the tightrope walker falling off. There are all different aspects and I tried to get a snapshot of each of them. The element of lines is very important in each piece. The lines represent the line of crossing into insanity, or finally tipping, crashing, or breaking. This is how my work demonstrates exploration.

What is the central idea of your concentration?
The central idea of my concentration is the fragility of life. I try to highlight the moments when things are on the verge of breaking. Life is precious; a gift.  I want each second to be epic, because you never know if it will be your last. My goal was to inspire people to reflect back upon their own lives and come to the same inclusion I did; I want to live a fulfilling life to the fullest, before and after it shatters.  Psalm 119:138 says, "The way you tell me to live is always right; help me understand it so I can live to the fullest." Without regrets, without fears, but with reckless abandon in the way of the Lord is how I want to live. What about you?

Fragility of Marriage. Nearly half of all marriages in the U.S. end in divorce.
Shooters Shatter-A gun can take away your life within a single second. That's how fragile you are
Shattered Heart

Tuesday, February 5, 2013

Life is a precious gift. "Handle with care." I'm thinking of a baby left on a doorstep in a box that says this on a sticker on the side. Black and white with the sticker bright red. I have not figured out what to spray-paint yet.
A shattered Valentine's Day up ahead here in the art room. I plan to have a girl looking into a Tiffany & Co. window with her hand on the glass and a red heart shattered in her chest. Everything else will be black and white. I think I will spray paint some more shattered lines on the edge of the paper.
Gunshot. This piece represents the fragility of life because a gun can take a life in the matter of a mere second. That is just how fragile our life is. Especially with all of the school shootings recently we are beginning to notice how quickly a gun can shatter so many lives. This shows growth because it took the spray-paint and used it a new and unique way to show the shock of a gunshot.
Lost. This piece is related to the fragility of life because a lot of people are afraid of being lost. It shows us just how small (fragile) we are in this giant world. We become disoriented and feel alone when we are lost. This piece shows growth from the last one because it looks more like the last one. I finally have a style to my pieces. The spray-paint is something I will continue to do and go back and add to my previous ones.

I am intrigued by mazes... is anyone afraid of being "Lost"?
Reflection

1. My first work does not demonstrate fear very well. Neither does the second one necessarily. The fear of heights is obvious once you know, but otherwise the tightroping looks fun. I am think about changing my theme to "fragility of life." (thanks for the idea Mrs Holliday!) I think that both of these fit that theme better. For now, I am going to try to do pieces that could possibly fit both.

2. I find success in the "Cracking Eggs" in the largest egg. I think the crack looks real in it, in the others not as much, but I really like the big egg. In Concentration #2 I really like the whole thing together. I think that it tells a good story. I like the silver skyline and the bright red wire. I like the color pop better in the second than in the first, for sure.

3. I think that the relationship between the two pieces is more growth than a connection. They don't look similar at all besides the limited color scheme. The style is very different, but I feel like all of my pieces are different. I hope that doesn't turn out to be bad for my concentration section. I like to experiment with all different things, so all of my pieces are different.

4. Some goals that I have for my next few works are to look sophisticated, be unique, and to really pop. I want to decide within these next few works which theme I want to stick with.
